Villagers block sand miners at Ondado

The two businessmen involving in sand mining at Ondado Village in the Oshikoto Region refused to comment on their illegal activities which had caused extensive environmental damage.
The duo, Ondangwa Mayor Paavo Amwele and owner of Huhu City and Otto Shikomba of Niimboto Trading, referred the NBC News team to their lawyers when contacted for comment Thursday morning.
When our news team visited the site later on Thursday it became evident that the illegal sand mining was still continuing.
The feeder road leading to the site has been blocked by villagers as soon as they learned through a story on NBC TV News that the dealings were illegal.
