Vote counting commences in Zimbabwe

Vote counting commenced at some polling stations. Justice Priscilla Chigumba, Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) briefed the media on the latest from polling stations.
ZEC officials have managed to clear most queues by 19h00 and those still in queues were being attended to.
By 18h00 voter turnout across the country was reported at an average of 75% at most polling stations with two provinces still outstanding.
These two provinces are expected to report by midnight.
ZEC attributes the peaceful atmosphere to the Zimbabwean police and the conduct of citizens.
There were reports of a female voter who collapsed and died.
Officials were reminded to remain at polling stations until results are announced.
ZEC cautioned public and media not to announce results before official results are announced.
