Water crisis in Zambezi Region

Sampofu declares water crisis in Zambezi

Zambezi Governor Lawrence Sampofu has declared a water crisis in the region.
He told Nampa that there was a critical need for the Agriculture, Water and Forestry Ministry to rehabilitate boreholes or dig them deeper for human and animal consumption.
After a recent visit to the Linyanti Constituency, Sampofu noted that the water shortage was not limited to the constituency alone, but to many other parts of the region.
The governor said streams and tributaries fed by the Linyanti and Kwando rivers dried up as a result of poor rainfall over the past four years.
Sampofu said his office would soon engage the line ministry to source funds to rehabilitate boreholes or have them deepened.
A total of 25 boreholes were drilled in the region between 2014 and 2015, but they are not operational as they were not installed with pumps.
