Namibia Sport Commission visits Oshana region

In its quest to ensure the sporting governing body reaches its set aims and objectives of coordinating, promoting and developing sports in the country, the commission has embarked on various regional visits to motivate sports administrators on the ground to deliver good quality services.
The Commission's Chief Administrator Freddy Mwiya in his address to various sport heads from Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto regions emphasised the need to be kept on par with latest sports developments in the country.
Mwiya stressed that sports development in the country is a shared responsibility and should be taken seriously by those at the forefront of various sporting bodies to chart a clear way forward towards restoring the country's once flourishing sports codes.
“We need to come to the regions to visit those on the ground to share and listen to their expectations in order to grow sports in this country. If you look at NDP5, it’s talking on the value of sport and how it can contribute to the GDP of the country how sport can contribute in terms of employment creation,” Mwiya said.
During these visits, the commission will also meet regional Governors to sensitize regional leadership to understand the value of sport in their respective regions.
He says over the years, the value of sports has been diminishing and hence the need to revive it by hosting the first ever historical national games envisaged for May this year.
“There is commitment, I believe what we require from them is commitment in sport to ensure that we at least render the best service to our athletes especially for us administrators. We expect you to support us give us time and you will be able to see results. Give us five years, I think you and I are going to transform sports to greater heights.”
The regional visits which started in the Kunene region on the 15th of this month are scheduled to end on the 7th of February with a comprehensive report to be compiled to ensure that decisions taken benefit the respective regions.
