Africa games Boxing team undergoes thorough training

A 12-member boxing team from Namibia is currently busy with their last training camp at the coast, before travelling to Morocco on Friday for the 2019 Africa games.
The week-long training camp has seen the boxers go through different kinds of exercises in preparation for the event.
Connect People to People and Namscore hosted the high performance training camp for the team Namibia boxers, as part of their final preparations.
During the camp, the boxers weren't just based in the gym and the ring, but had to go through effectiveness programmes as well.
Dietary needs for each individual athlete were discussed and gym sessions were tailored each day to focus on specific areas, from jump stretch courses to spin classes, with a qualified trainer who conducted all exercises.
Three team effectiveness programmes were conducted in a team building atmosphere to challenge the athletes' mind.
A group psychology session was also given to educate the athletes on how to use stress, anxiety and nervousness to their advantage.
Additionally, there were motivational workshops and goal setting sessions held in order to keep the team in the correct mind-set leading up to the competition.
The boxers went through team building exercises throughout the week to teach them to work together as a team, and to be prepared for obstacles that might get into their way, not only as individual boxers, but as team Namibia.
“This was a great week and we had learned plenty of things, not only practising, but also how to do other stuff with body and mind. We are looking forward to bring back medals for Namibia” team coach Edward Kangorondurzu said.
The boxers shared their views on the camp as well.
“We have been trained by professional this week, and we were taught plenty of things, from how to be ready and prepared for anything that might come our way, not only in fighting, but also to be in the right state of mind in the competition” Emmanuel Shaanika said.
A six Karate member team with their coaches will complete the same training camp starting on Thursday.
