Cricket Namibia launches new junior Cricket tournament

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 edition of the annual Walvis Bay Salt Refiners Cricket Festival due to COVID-19, Cricket Namibia has launched a junior tournament to be hosted in Windhoek next month.
Cricket Namibia is looking to maintain their development efforts, aimed at the country's future stars with the setting up of a new school tournament for U11 and U13 players.
The event has been named 'The Annual XCO & APS Junior Cricket Tournament.
It is open to the traditional 11 player-teams, but also welcomes groups between six to eight players who will have the option of competing in both 6-a-side and combined games.
The event has been structured in a way to ensure that any cricketing background is welcome with Cricket Namibia welcoming sign-ups from schools, clubs, private academies and other entities.
Individuals who may not be part of a team collective also have the opportunity to sign up.
The fixtures in the tournament will be arranged in a way to maximise playing opportunities; whereas children will play in as many games as possible.
The maximising of game time allows boys and girls to gain as much exposure to match situations as possible, whilst being in a friendly and welcoming environment; a factor
The final measure to ensure inclusivity is the adaptation of the bye-laws of cricket to ensure that the game will be suitable for the age groups competing.
Both the U11 and U13 tournaments are set to begin on the 21st of August, and will conclude on the 25th of the same month.
