Khomas Youth League tournament kicks off

Khomas Youth League tournament kicks off

The Khomas Youth League is an ongoing football league that develops players from the under nine age group all the way up to under seventeen.
The Youth League has been in existence since 2004 and is being played during school days throughout the year.
According to the Khomas Youth League chairman, Lazarus Xoagub, they decided to organise a tournament for the under 15 to celebrate and educate the young ones about Africa Day.
Xoagub said the other age groups would have their own tournaments in the future, but this weekend they wanted to concentrate on the under 15s to have the kids appreciate Africa Day and appreciate each other.
The tournament sees 12 teams which are divided in to three groups, where group winners and one second placed team are expected to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Khomas Second Division League is the immediate beneficiary of the Youth League, and their chairman Dawid Morgan is excited by the ongoing development.
He said he was very happy to see this kind of tournaments as they develop not only the Khomas League but for Namibia as a whole and one should take pride at it.
According to Morgan, players such as Peter Shalulile and Larry Horaeb came to rise though the development programme as well.
The tournament is expected to be completed on the 27th of May 2017.
