Uutoni urge for proper selection guidelines

Windhoek-The minister of Sport, Youth and National Services Erastus Uutoni has urged for more investment in sports infrastructures in the regions, while also calling on Sports Administrators to provide him with a selection criteria for national teams. He said this during the closing ceremony of the first ever Namibia National Youth games on Saturday. Khomas Region came out as overall winners.
While applauding the winners and top performers in the various codes, the sports minister said the outcome does not show the true reflection of talent in the country.
“I think you have seen the trend here now, how the region have won their medals and you can really see that they have only won Silver and Bronze. But the regions that has good facilities have won more Gold it's because they have facilities, We have to work hard, Sports Commission, the directorate of Sport, we really need to work hard. The business community, if you want our people to be attracted by sport lets work hard'. Let's develop the regions, I can tell you in the regions there a lot of strengths. You cannot have only one region and think you that is the strength that is not true I don't believe it”Uutoni said.
Uutoni warned administrators against favouritism when selecting national teams.
While acknowledging that it's a process of learning, Uutoni stressed that a post modem of the games should done and forward a report to him.
“Not just Uutoni just because i have been in sport for years can i say go and select, It's should be a proper guidance in place. We have to reform, we have to change so that we can attract young people in sport. This is very important. Today you see those who are selected, but when people are preparing to go to Gaborone you will find that those who are selected here is replaced by somebody else who did not participate even or who did not qualify. That unfair treatment of other people is not good and I want that if it happens please inform us” he added.
the Sport Minister urged all the selected national players for the upcoming games at the Zone Six Games in Gaborone, Botswana in December this year to do the country proud.
